It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing away of Derek Smith after sucumbing to cancer on the 4th July 2009 at Pittsburgh, USA. Derek had served with the Pipes and Drums of the 2nd Btn Scots Guards and then joined the Pride of Murray as Pipe Sergeant in 1978 and was instrumental in taking the band to it's first venture into Grade 2. Derek went on to join the Britiash Airways Pipe Band where he was also an employee. Derek was the current Pipe Major of MacDonald Pipe Band, Pittsburgh. Our deepest condolences go to his children, Sheena, Graham and Colin.
